Maxwell Shieff was a Beverly Hills wardrobe designer for the movies and also did made-to-order piece for clients. He was a master tailor and his gowns are renowned for their cut and attention to detail. This is a really unusual piece for him and I would guess that it was specifically made upon the request of a client. It is very avant-garde for its time period and a fore-runner of the look and feel you see in later decades. A slinky red knit jersey is cut loose but with that micro waist detailing that a woman of this time period would still want and expect. The legs are cut long and loose and the neckline is kept high. It is all hand finished and quite chic when on! Amazing and in excellent condition.
